Cardinal Direction Markers

I have observed on cardinal directional auxillary markers in my area the fact that the first letter of the direction was slightly larger than the remaining letters.  In the 1988 edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, this was a recommended option:  for the new 2001 edition, it has become mandatory.  Richard C. Moeur's Manual of Traffic Signs has examples of cardinal direction signs, but they represent the older version, with all of the letters equal in size.  I modified the directional signs to represent the signs with the larger first letter and created a version of the signs with white on blue colours (which are typically used on interstate highways)
