There are two common fonts used for the US highway shield. The Federal Highway Administration classifies them as "Series C" and "Series D" (See Richard C. Moeur for more information). I know some of the states 'fonting' policy. In addition, the US highway shield has been enlarged a bitsince going to the back background.
