Before I begin, I need to re-iterate my Civil Servant’s Disclaimer: The views expressed on this blog are my own, not those of my employer.
Those who know me well will find it unusual, but for this election cycle, I have ‘crossed the floor’ and registered for the Democrat primary. The GOP has no competitive primary races involving my voting district, and there are two local races on the Democrat side that I intend to vote for in the upcoming primary
The first race is for the 2nd District Kansas Senate Seat. Incumbent Senator Marci Francisco is facing a primary challenge. I have previously worked with Marci on the Depot Redux project to preserve the Santa Fe/Amtrak station.
In the Douglas County District Attorney race, I plan on voting for Dakota Loomis. Our Incumbent DA, Suzanne Valdez, has an active disciplinary investigation hanging over her head. Although the Disciplinary Administrator’s office has recommended to the Supreme Court that she be censured, the court is still free to suspend her license to practice law. A suspension would oust her from the DA’s office and automatically disqualify her candidacy. On the other hand, I did know Dakota back in High School. I did not have a bad thing to say then, and I do not have a bad thing to say about him now.
