Right Lane for Weather Radios

Right Lane for Weather Radios

I noticed today that a short post from 2008 regarding a run on weather radios had gotten a few hits recently.

Well, severe weather is still an issue here in Kansas, and the demand for weather radios hasn’t changed much. This time around, we got a little help

On May 18, the Storm Prediction Center issued a “Moderate” Risk for eastern Kansas. Thanks to some support from The Y’All Squad, the Shawnee County Division of Emergency Management and the local Topeka Media had a weather radio distribution at the Kansas Expocentre parking lot.

It might be a bit difficult to discern from this image, but by the time I got there, the distribution line had backed onto Topeka Boulevard.

Despite that, I was able to get a weather radio

The signal of the local weather radio stations is not the best. In order to get a listenable (and alert-receiving) signal, I wound up mounting it to the wall. As you can see from this picture, the radio did receive an alert – a Tornado Watch.
