It’s my party, I’ll shoot as many trains as I want to

For my birthday weekend, between the dinner and the birthday cake, I took some time to do some train watching.

I started by greeting Amtrak 4, which as of late has been running behind schedule

After catching 4, I headed out to Ottawa to catch some action. I managed to start off with a pair of “Z” trains (top-priority intermodal). The first one came at 1057

The second Z train arrived at 1113

At 1131, another Quality intermodal train (“Q” train, one step below a “Z”)

The high iron took a little lunch break, but at 1259, another westbound arrived. This one consisted mainly of ‘feed cars’ with a few tank cars on the rear with the DPU.

The only eastbound that I caught on the Emporia Sub was an intermodal at 1308

All of the trains I caught were on Main 2. Apparently, there were a few eastbounds parked on Main 1. The parked trains were held there for a while, as the BNSF dispatcher routed eastbound trains up the Topeka Sub and past my living quarters.

Although I didn’t take any pictures, I did make a record of the freight trains that I caught from home on Saturday night, all of which were eastbounds.

1928: Stack train with BNSF 4989, 4757, and 8361.
2044: Unit fertilizer train with BNSF 7852, 7621, and 8185
2129: Z train with BNSF 6810, 4206, (unknown ES44), 6998, and NS 1227
2157: Q train with BNSF 7812, 1093, and 6781, and an unknown DPU.
2218: Q train with BNSF 5770 leading and BNSF 7757 and 7264 on DPU.

All photos were taken on June 25, 2022.

An hour in the pumpkin patch

Right before Halloween, I wanted to head down to Uncle Warren’s pumpkin patch (AKA, the BNSF Southern Transcon) to catch some action. Let’s just say I was not disappointed.
