For my birthday weekend, between the dinner and the birthday cake, I took some time to do some train watching.
I started by greeting Amtrak 4, which as of late has been running behind schedule
After catching 4, I headed out to Ottawa to catch some action. I managed to start off with a pair of “Z” trains (top-priority intermodal). The first one came at 1057
The second Z train arrived at 1113
At 1131, another Quality intermodal train (“Q” train, one step below a “Z”)
The high iron took a little lunch break, but at 1259, another westbound arrived. This one consisted mainly of ‘feed cars’ with a few tank cars on the rear with the DPU.
The only eastbound that I caught on the Emporia Sub was an intermodal at 1308
All of the trains I caught were on Main 2. Apparently, there were a few eastbounds parked on Main 1. The parked trains were held there for a while, as the BNSF dispatcher routed eastbound trains up the Topeka Sub and past my living quarters.
Although I didn’t take any pictures, I did make a record of the freight trains that I caught from home on Saturday night, all of which were eastbounds.
