After chasing the Union Pacific steam train from Neodesha to Paola on Sunday, November 17, I followed that up by catching the train twice more on Tuesday, November 19, at Linwood and Newman.
To celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Golden Spike, the Union Pacific Railroad restored on of their biggest locomotives, “Big Boy” 4014. During 2019, they have been touring as much of the UP system as possible. On November 17, I followed 4014 from Neodesha to Paola.
I woke up on a Sunday Morning and got wind that BNSF was running eastbound trains through Lawrence on the Topeka Sub.
Usually, Labor Day weekend means that I’m out doing something train related. I decided this year to head out to Camden, Missouri on the Marcelline Sub.
I arrived a little before 10:00 and found that I wasn’t alone – there was another car, and two railfans wearing day-glo orange vests already there waiting on the (late, as is the norm) Amtrak 4. It didn’t take long for the action to kick up.
With the foot injury immobilizing me for a while, I pretty much have all my negatives from early ’95 rescanned. Now saved to flickr are some previously unreleased goodies 🙂

The first Sunday of the month usually means cleaning the BNSF station in Lawrence. But first, I needed to get outside and catch some trains. Because of my ‘appointment,’ I elected to stay close to town and went with the UP Kansas Sub.
I’ve been doing this picture-taking thing for 20 years now. To close out this 20th year, I pulled out my old negative folder and scanned several negatives from that first year.
