Welcome to my anchor point on the web. For over 20 years, I have shared various subjects regarding highway, railways, local radio, and more.
I chose the name “route56” in honor of the green and white variant of the US Highway shield that the Kansas Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency used specifically to mark US 56 from the designation of US 56 in 1956 until KDOT elected to adopt the standard black-and-white design in the mid-1980s

Saturday morning, I woke up early to open the Lawrence Depot and Greet the eastbound Southwest Chief, as I have occasionally done as a volunteer. It was the first time since the new signs were installed and turned on that I had done so. After the train left and the lights were turned off, I…

The past two and a half weeks have been spent travelling between the Kennedy Compound and Topeka on a Temporary assignment. I was part of a team performing a wireless survey. K-57 was truncated to K-4 near Dwight, so the K-57 sign at the K-4/K-177 junction is gone. The I-35/US 50 interchange has been completely altered, so there’s no longer a left…
I’m a little behind in posting rail photos, but I finally got aroundto posting my photos from the Great Train Expo (better known, albeitinaccurately, as GATS) as well as a couple of shots from Holliday….and who I saw running the gates.

After the last week in January/First week in February, I was mostly working my day job and on the local Train show, so I didn’t go out that much. I did, however, get a whole lot of photos at the train show. Photos from that can be found here (as there are too many pictures…
