Welcome to route56.com

Welcome to my anchor point on the web. For over 20 years, I have shared various subjects regarding highway, railways, local radio, and more.

I chose the name “route56” in honor of the green and white variant of the US Highway shield that the Kansas Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency used specifically to mark US 56 from the designation of US 56 in 1956 until KDOT elected to adopt the standard black-and-white design in the mid-1980s

A little bit was made on the Fox News Channel about Senator Obama accidentally stating that 10,000 had been killed in the Greensburg Tornado in reference to comments made Gov. Kathleen Sebelius regarding the state of the National Guard in light of the Iraq deployments. Obviously, he added the thousand by mistake. However, it is…

The Weather Channel has sent Jim Cantore to Folly Beach, South Carolina to report on the, at the moment, non-tropical moving in from off the coast. Despite the Hurricane Season not starting for another 3 weeks, the Low offshore is clearly a threat. It could still get a name… if the NHC determines that it…

Weather… we have the town of Greensburg leveled, and the highway closed to keep gawkers away. My uncle Marty’s mother in law lives in the area, and I got a couple of calls asking about her. Meanwhile, it’s been so wet around here that the Kansas River is running heavy, with flood warnings for the…

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,268222,00.html Apparantly, someone had been sending nasty notes to the media complaining about the treatment of cheerleaders and dance teams on TV (apparantly, on the sidelines and at nationals). This person also laced many of his letters with a powdery insecticide. The FBI is now offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identity…

  • Car work

Back in December, I bought a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country. Yesterday, I took it in to Gregg Tire for mainenance. $320 later, I had the transmission and power sterring flushed, and, of course, an Oil Change. The Power Steering was creaking whenever I turned the wheel, and the fluid levels may have been a…

  • Ides of March

Beware the ides of march… So they say. March 15 is the birthday of Kristen Badali and Lindsay Phillps, two angels that I met during my time taking pictures of the KU dancers. Incidentally, I’ve learned via myspace that Kristen now resides in Chicago… which is where KU has been sent for the first and…

  • Frightful

Yeah, we’re past the 12th day of Christmas, but the weather has definitely taken a turn for the worse… I just checked in to the Comfort Inn & Suites in Overland Park, near I-435 and Metcalf before I go to work at the Sprint campus.  Like I’ve said before, I’m in a “critical ops” section,…

  • Lousy weather

From the Sleep Inn in Olathe… The Ice is starting to accumulate outside. Because I work in Kansas City, and I work in what is a “critical ops” section of Sprint… I will be reporting to work as normal. It is bad enough my parents do not want me driving all the way back to…
