Welcome to my anchor point on the web. For over 20 years, I have shared various subjects regarding highway, railways, local radio, and more.
I chose the name “route56” in honor of the green and white variant of the US Highway shield that the Kansas Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency used specifically to mark US 56 from the designation of US 56 in 1956 until KDOT elected to adopt the standard black-and-white design in the mid-1980s

This morning, I replaced the socket in one of the light fixtures at the Lawrence Depot. I hooked up my iPod and set it to shuffle. Here’s what the MP3 player returned.
I went into Perry to deliver gifts for my nieces and to get to know mybaby sister a little bit. After that, I decided to head a couple of blocks over to the Union Pacific mainline to catch what was going on.
‘Twas the Monday before Christmas and activity on the Union Pacific was blowing through the snow-covered landscape. There’s also a late Amtrak 4.

Kansas now has a Diverging Diamond Interchange. The I-35 exit at Homestead Lane is now open. Unlike many recent DDIs, this is a new interchange to serve the new BNSF intermodal facility between Edgerton and Gardner.

For some reason, I feel the need to comment on a recent announcement involving a television program that I (and about 18 million plus) watch regularly.

This morning (as with most Saturday mornings) I got up at 4:30 to open the Lawrence Amtrak station.

In the latest “Road Video” Installment, we travel along Interstate 35 between BETO Junction and US 59 in Ottawa
