Welcome to my anchor point on the web. For over 20 years, I have shared various subjects regarding highway, railways, local radio, and more.
I chose the name “route56” in honor of the green and white variant of the US Highway shield that the Kansas Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency used specifically to mark US 56 from the designation of US 56 in 1956 until KDOT elected to adopt the standard black-and-white design in the mid-1980s

A recent set of comments on a spirit squad related email list reminded me of events that happened 10 years ago this month that brought controversy to the KU spirit squad. In December of 1998, the KU Athletics department decreed that the spirit squads would not be allowed to participate in Nationals. However, the Dance…
I’ve added a new set of photos from this past week, including trains on christmas eve, my little cousins, and meeting up with friends at a local watering hole. https://www.route56.com/gallery/photo/122708

Tonight, the Jayhawks face the Arizona wildcats on the FOX sports network. The lead-in to the KU game is… the St. Louis Blues versus the Detroit Red Wings. I dunno about this. Although there are a few Ice Hockey fans in the area, somehow, there aren’t as many of those as there are of college…
