Welcome to route56.com

Welcome to my anchor point on the web. For over 20 years, I have shared various subjects regarding highway, railways, local radio, and more.

I chose the name “route56” in honor of the green and white variant of the US Highway shield that the Kansas Department of Transportation and its predecessor agency used specifically to mark US 56 from the designation of US 56 in 1956 until KDOT elected to adopt the standard black-and-white design in the mid-1980s

  • What I did today

So far: * Got a new pair of size 42 Birkenstocks as a birthday present. Maybe I found the question of Life, the Universe, and everything. * Got pictures of 5 different trains. * Forced three of those trains to slow down at the Ohio Terrace crossing when I noticed that the crossing wasn’t working…

  • E85

When I bought my 2001 Town & Country, one of the things I found out about it off the bat was that it was a “flex fuel” vehicle, meaning it could run on E85 fuel. I had not had an opportunity to take advantage of that fact until last night. I found out through the…

    * First off, the place that I have called home for the past 17 years is Up for sale. Most of my free time has been spent keeping the place clean in making improvements here and there. There was a Open House on Saturday, which meant we had to evacuate for the afternoon. Inquiries about…

  • The old Cuckoo

My dad bought a cuckoo clock for his parents in 1970 while stationed in Japan. It hung at my grandparent’s home in Old West Lawrence until my grandma moved in ’87 (my Grandfather passed away in 1973 — I was eventually given his name). When my grandma passed away a month ago, the first thing…
