History

K-168 was established in a March 26, 1969 Highway Commission resolution in conjunction with a new alignment of US 56 between the McPherson/Marion county line and Lehigh. The reason for the choice of highway number is unknown.

KDOT attempted to turn back K-168 in 2013 by offering Marion County a cash consideration, but the county declined the offer.
